Research

I study four broad areas: Innovation for sustainable development and social entrepreneurship; Technology and digitisation in business and society; Gender, entrepreneurship & Technology; and Digitisation & Entrepreneurship in arts + culture.

Innovation for Sustainable Development & Social Entrepreneurship

India is a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship that offer both development or societal benefits as well as financial sustainability. Yet while inclusive innovation and social entrepreneurship are established sectors and concepts, we still know relatively little about what the best support or most appropriate policy framework looks like, or how to effectively deal with last mile access and distribution challenges. I look at what inclusive innovation means in the context of India, and at how to best enable and scale inclusive innovation and social entrepreneurship. I am also interested in how to make other forms of innovation and entrepreneurship more inclusive, how to work with corporates to enable inclusive innovation thinking, and mainstreaming inclusive innovation policy and different forms of impact investing.
Technology & Digitisation in Business & Society

Technological change is occurring at an increasingly rapid pace and we do not yet know how new technologies including Gen AI will affect society, and the way we work, do business, study, or live. I study how the adoption of new technology, digitisation and Gen AI may affect business and entrepreneurs. I look at how technology and digitisation impacts society, with a focus on inclusion and access for all.
Gender, Entrepreneurship and Technology

While there are increased number of women entrepreneurs, women are still underrepresented both as entrepreneurs, founders, investors and decision-makers. I study the dynamics of women entrepreneurship and whether challenges women entrepreneurs face may differ from their male counterparts. And I look at gender dimensions of technological change and digitisation.
Arts + Culture Entrepreneurship

India's cultural and creative industries is rapidly evolving, primarily from the bottom up - such as new creative businesses including art and artist management, festivals, performance spaces or schools for music, theatre and dance; new collectives, associations and platforms to engage with consumers and fans, started by artists and other creatives; and the explosion of digital creative content and content makers. I study how technology and digitisation is changing arts + culture, what startups and other new organisations are emerging, and how this is changing the dynamics of the industry.
